Full history and provenance- Captured vehicle rear license plate from the Wehrmacht from Stalingrad. The entire Sixth Army was destroyed in early 1943. This officer Wehrmacht plate is in good condition and a collector's piece. Note battle damage from strafing in bottom left corner of the plate. Plate WH331375 and all proper markings. Sourced directly from Western Russia, where this item has been for the past 77 years. I was able to obtain a few items from this estate, directly from Volgograd. The German 6th Army before being overrun after running out of food and supplies through January 1943. The Battle of Stalingrad (23 August 1942 2 February 1943) was the largest confrontation of World War II, in which Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union (repelling the Enemy at the Gates) for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) in Southern Russia.

(Wikipedia) Planes were desperately needed for the airlift to provide food and supplies, but often were not available or were damaged. By January 1943, soldiers had 200cal per day available to them, 1/10th that of what was needed. The Luftwaffe did famously bring them women's fur coats, medals by the cases and other useless nostrums.... But few made it out.

It is improbable that this soldier unterofficer made it out, given the damage so extensive of a close range piece of weaponry. A truly humanistic reflection on the depths of war and a reminder that freedom is not free. Germany deployed assets away from the Western Front to support Stalingrad and the Eastern Front and to airlift into Stalingrad pocket. This was one of the major factors in Allied landing and moving forward. The loss of civilians, soldiers, material and culture was immense on both sides.
