Reserve Infanterie Regiments Nr 111. 111 was a formation of the Imperial German Army during World War I. It was part of the 56th Reserve Infantry Brigade under the 28th Reserve Division, belonging to the XIV Reserve Corps. The regiment was deployed on the Western Front, often operating in the Flanders-Artois region.

The 28th Reserve Division, to which RIR? 111 was attached, initially consisted of two reserve infantry brigades. 111 belonged to the 56th Reserve-Infanterie-Brigade, alongside Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr.

110 and other units such as Jäger battalions, cavalry, artillery, and pioneers. A tragic episode in the regiment's history occurred on 4 May 1917, when its 10th and 11th Companies became trapped in the Winterberg tunnel near Craonne. Of the 273 men, only 3 survived, and the tunnel was resealed six days later-effectively becoming their tomb. Personal accounts from the Battle of the Somme indicate that staff from RIR? 111 experienced extreme hardship under heavy bombardment.
