Offered for sale is a genuine pair of Germany Army Military Issue 10x50 Binoculars (Dienstglas) from the Second World War. These binoculars were manufactured by the firm of Carl Zeiss at their factory in Jena. For example, the Carl Zeiss firm used blc and rln at different times. There is also a blue dot under the maker's name, which indicates that these binoculars are "Kalterfest".

This means that they have been treated with a cold resistant lubricant for use in areas with extreme winter conditions, such as the Russian front. The serial number of these binoculars is 2163661. They are a H/6400 scale in lens, with a 10x50 magnification. I would describe the optics as being just fair.

There is a haziness in both lenses, more pronounced on the right side. In the photos, picture 7 is left side, picture 8 is right side. There is a reticle (measurement grid) on the right side, but I was unable to show it in the picture. Also, some of the Kalterfest lubricant has solidified, and become loose, and is rattling around inside the binoculars.

Not a major issue, but mentioned for accuracy, nonetheless. If you are looking for a set of binoculars with "crystal clear" optics, then this is probably not the pair for you. However, if you are a collector of genuine WW2 military binoculars, and you can overlook the aforementioned faults, then this pair is still quite collectible. On the positive side, the external condition is very good. The gritty sandlike texture is excellent.

On some other WW2 German binoculars that I have seen, this is often damaged, with fragments missing. This is not the case here. Also, the original black paint is very well preserved, and has only worn off on some of the edges.

On this example, the paint has not been retouched in any way... The paint is usually one of the first things to come off with heavy duty usage. The binoculars also have their original leather neck strap.

As well as their original leather Okularschutz (eyepiece cover). There is a Waffenamt stamp (Reichswehr Eagle early type) on the Okularschutz. This by itself, is quite collectible. So, there we have it. A genuine pair of early war WW2 German Army Military Issue 10x50 binoculars, with some faults (as described), but overall an honest piece of German military history, and a nice addition to your collection.
