Like many funeral services today, a small card (usually baseball card size) were printed with a photo and brief history of the deceased. This custom has existed for several centuries and was very prevalent during the Second World War. These particular card was printed in remembrance of. Nikolaus served in as SS Anti-Aircraft Flak Unit. He was awarded the Infantry Assault Badge, the Army Flak Badge, a Wound Badge and the Eastern Front Medal.He fell on November 14, 1942 at the age of 20. The studio portrait shows Nikolaus in his service tunic and overseas cap while wearing the General Assault Badge and also the Black Wound badge. Finding awards relating the the Army Flak badge and much more difficult to find than those of the Luftwaffe Flak Badge - this is an exceptional card!
