Card inside was written by the WWII US Soldier who took it home from the war. He states it belonged to a French Prisoner of War who was captured by the Germans, and liberated by the US 3rd Army. The French soldier has meticulously engraved all sides except the bottom. Sailboat scene on the lid, flowers, a fruit basket, and the names and dates of various places. On the one side is a depiction of the German Invasion of France on May 10, 1940.
Really nice piece of WWII history from a man who must have been in captivity for quite some time.
