Incomplete toy great to restore or for parts. I just found this in a old Pennsylvania attic, found with other pre-1955 toys. I have never found one of these before, its very old and came with the hand painted highly detailed composition soldiers pictured, driver, passenger and rear facing seated soldier with rifle. Its a very sophisticated tin toy, wind up as well as electric lights, with levers to activate each feature. The vehicle itself is made of tin and is in original paint, it measures approx 10" long and the cannon it pulls is approx 9", the figures are approx 3.It has several actions, its a wind up toy with a lever to activate and stop, it has electric battery operated headlights(one tiny original glass bulb is still here). I dont know whats missing, probably the same kind of ammo or storage boxes that remain intact on the other side, they have opening doors that latch,, and obviously something is missing from the center, but the photos are clear and can be enlarged for greater detail so please take a look and you would know best. Also please note that at some point in the past someone re attached a fender using some sort of silicone like bathtub caulk or glue which is white and rubbery and can be seen in one photo, doesnt seem like a big deal and can be removed carefully but i just noticed that.
I can tell you that it still has one original tiny glass lightbulb and i tested it by using a battery and a ball of aluminum foil to fill the odd sized gapi dont know what size batteries they used for this but nothing modern seems to fit? ,, so i improvised and as you can see in one or 2 photos, it does still light! There is a wind up mechanism with a very thin wind up shaft, i dont have a key that fits but i used a needle nose pliers to wind it and the wind up mechanism IS still working! And the clutch lever is working- when that lever is pulled back it acts as brakes or when moved forward, it lets the wheels turn.
I only wound it slightly to test it and didnt want to break any old spings in there so it wasnt super powerful on the table top but when held up the wheels clearly spin and stop as they should, you can wind it more and maybe get greater power out of it. It has one tip missing from the end of the 2 long rods, and the mechanism is partially seized and very tight but the breach does open and close with a little effort, it needs some adjustment to work perfectly again but the mechanism seems to be all here.
